I tested Final Cut Pro (10.6.4) with the beta version of Ventura and Cinematic mode works as expected. Some features of FCP will require Ventura, like editing Cinematic Mode video shot with iOS 16. And of course the macOS Ventura public release is now available. Along side the next gen M2 Macs, we certainly could see FCP 10.7. And they beat that dealine for every Mac excpet the Mac Pro. Of course, we could see FCP 10.6.6 between now and then.Īpple set a two year roadmap to transition all of their Macs to silicon. If that's the case, the recent glacial pace of FCP feature updates would remain intact. If we don't see 10.7 until next Spring, it would be one year between feature updates. Perhaps the one silver-lining - even if Infinite might not live up to its name in gameplay, is that it sure does manage to be a source of infinite discussion.Irrational Games has spoken about playing as Elizabeth in the upcoming BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea DLC, saying that the team is working on making sure the sequences don't feel like playing "Booker in a dress." All these years later, compartmentalizing this game into a simple thesis is still damn near impossible. It's okay to enjoy a mess, and 10 years on, Bioshock Infinite is one of the best looking, smoothest playing, broken games ever made. It does all the right sort of emotional signaling you'd expect from a Naughty Dog or Insomniac Games production. There's nothing wrong with enjoying Infinite at a surface level. To play Infinite is to navigate a graveyard of unfulfilled ambition and lofty goals that are better explored in the likes of Disco Elysium, Dishonored 2, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and, most ironically, Bioshock 2. It relies so heavily on presentation that calling it style over substance is being polite. This was back when removing too much of what you'd already promised from a game would result in significant backlash, so everything promised is technically in the game, but in the easiest to execute fashion possible. Not that Infinite wouldn't try to backtrack its own backtracking later, but everything tends to play out like this. Don't worry though, because later in the game, the leader of the minorities, at the start of her revolution, is suddenly painted as being as cruel as the masters that used and abused her for years. The decision isn't even binary - Infinite interrupts you either way, and the only person who knows what you would've done is you. Except you don't get to live with that action. The 'racism' level with the obvious Klan-inspired cult that worships ravens, the 'religious intolerance' level where you face the ghost of Elizabeth's 'mother', the 'violence begets violence' level that weirdly undercuts the enitrety of the opening arguments about racism - feel like token setpieces rather than meaningful discussions on their central themes.įor instance, when at a horrendously racist rally where white supremacists want to punish an interracial couple, there's actually the option to either play along or try and defend them. The themes explored in Infinite over Bioshock are spread extremely thin, and weirdly comparmentalised into distinct in-game levels rather than functioning as a whole. The problem is that those ambitions for a headier story beyond the M-rated Disney fairytale of Booker and Elizabeth's escape from Columbia often sees them dragged into plot elements that are problematic at best.ĪLSO READ: Atomic Heart's Polymer Glove Is The Best Gadget I've Used In Years Courtney Draper gives one of the best performances of her life as Elizabeth, and it's safe to say that Infinite is part of why Troy Baker is cast in any story that involves a duet of likable leads, because he makes Booker DeWitt much more than a stale pair of hands rendered on your screen. Bioshock, whether you loved or hated its simplification of System Shock, had one hell of a twist, told with some of the best dialogue and acting in the industry up to that point.ĭon't get me wrong, the leads are incredibly well acted. All the mechanical shortcomings - from only having two guns to most of the more interesting elements being ripped out with a chainsaw's elegance - could've been forgiven if Infinite managed just one thing: a good story. There are a variety of tools and frameworks available to you when building a web application. New to Laravel? Check out the Laravel Bootcamp for a hands-on tour of the framework while we walk you through building your first Laravel application. We'll help you take your first steps as a web developer or give you a boost as you take your expertise to the next level. Whether you are new to PHP web frameworks or have years of experience, Laravel is a framework that can grow with you. Laravel strives to provide an amazing developer experience while providing powerful features such as thorough dependency injection, an expressive database abstraction layer, queues and scheduled jobs, unit and integration testing, and more. A web framework provides a structure and starting point for creating your application, allowing you to focus on creating something amazing while we sweat the details. Vectors can have up to 16,000 dimensions.Laravel is a web application framework with expressive, elegant syntax. Each element is a single precision floating-point number (like the real type in Postgres), and all elements must be finite (no NaN, Infinity or -Infinity). You can use vector as the type (instead of vector(3)).ĭROP INDEX index_name Reference Vector TypeĮach vector takes 4 * dimensions + 8 bytes of storage. Can I store vectors with different dimensions in the same column? You’ll need to use dimensionality reduction at the moment. What if I want to index vectors with more than 2,000 dimensions? Yes, pgvector uses the write-ahead log (WAL), which allows for replication and point-in-time recovery. A partitioned table can have thousands of partitions of that size. Languageįrequently Asked Questions How many vectors can be stored in a single table?Ī non-partitioned table has a limit of 32 TB by default in Postgres. You can even generate and store vectors in one language and query them in another. Use pgvector from any language with a Postgres client. When querying, specify an appropriate number of probes (higher is better for recall, lower is better for speed) - a good place to start is sqrt(lists)Īdd an index for each distance function you want to use.ĬREATE INDEX ON items USING ivfflat (embedding vector_l2_ops) WITH (lists = 1000) Languages.Choose an appropriate number of lists - a good place to start is rows / 1000 for up to 1M rows and sqrt(rows) for over 1M rows.Create the index after the table has some data.It has faster build times and uses less memory than HNSW, but has lower query performance (in terms of speed-recall tradeoff). Unlike typical indexes, you will see different results for queries after adding an approximate index.Īn IVFFlat index divides vectors into lists, and then searches a subset of those lists that are closest to the query vector. You can add an index to use approximate nearest neighbor search, which trades some recall for speed. SELECT category_id, AVG(embedding) FROM items GROUP BY category_id Indexingīy default, pgvector performs exact nearest neighbor search, which provides perfect recall. Originally, cappuccino was a delectable coffee, cream, and sugar brew appreciated in Italy and her European neighbors for centuries. Essentially, a cappuccino is an espresso combined with steamed milk. What Is A Cappuccino?Ī cappuccino is considered a more luxurious form of coffee. It was during this time, during the late 1700s, of refining the methods of coffee preparation that cappuccino became a part of coffee’s heritage. People preferred not to consume small coffee particles. Toward the end of the 1700s, French and British nationals set the trend of filtering beans.įiltering coffee beans were favored over the Ottoman style of boiling ground beans. Throughout European history and coffee appreciation, citizens discovered that filtering their coffee beans effectively drew out the flavor and enhanced their drinking experience. This manner of preparing coffee brings fine coffee ground beans to a boil and adds sugar or a citrus element like orange or lemon. The Ottoman style is like today’s Turkish-styled coffee. Coffee’s history is connected with Europe’s- the tides of Islam’s invasion, retreat, conquest, and defeat over successive generations. Coffee was initially prepared in an Ottoman manner, in which Eastern influences of mainland Europe were unavoidable. Espresso is ideal for milky drinks as its concentrated amount allows for varied mixtures.Ĭoffee’s origin story is centuries old, and its culture and craft have an authentic heritage. The caffeine content is exceptionally high and is considered an energizing boost or kick. It’s served as a shot and has an intense bitter taste. It’s Italian in origin and translates to pressed out. It’s made by pressurized steam forced through ground coffee beans. The espresso content in all three drink variants can be increased by one, two, and even three shots.Įspresso is a highly condensed form of black coffee. These drinks are different variants of the two components. The main ingredients in all three drinks are espresso and steamed milk. The difference in taste and texture isn’t readily discernable. The milk content is the primary difference between cappuccino, latte, and macchiato. Two frames from the Hasselblad 500C scanned on the V550. * There are many even more basic scanners available but they lack a backlight function, practically required for good negative scans, as well as negative holders which makes life a lot easier. I’ll likely get back to a more complete review of the unit at a future date, but for todays entry I’d like to focus on the image quality it offers when scanning negatives. The final pick mostly came down to availability and software. The difference between scanners in this tier is small but as I've seen great work scanned on both the V550, the V600 and the similar specced Canon 9000F I felt confident that either scanner would be fine for my use. The Epson V550 fits the bill well – it’s one of the lower end machines in Epson’s lineup with the ability to scan negatives*. Since I was, and still am, a little unsure of how medium format fits for me I decided to get a pretty basic model. So even if it can’t quite extract all the detail from the negatives even a lower end flatbed scanner can offer medium format scans good enough for the vast majority of uses. There are a few reasons I’ve not been using it more often but the biggest issue has been the same issue I faced when first returning to 35mm film around two years ago – not being quite satisfied with the scans I was getting back from the local labs, especially for the high price asked for them.įortunately it’s much easier to coax a good enough scan from the larger medium format negatives than it is from the smaller 35mm variety. Especially since whenever I do use it I come away really enjoying the experience. Every time I look over at my shelf of camera gear it gives me pause that I have such a nice camera sitting unused for so much of the time. The Hasselblad 500C was the first serious film camera I bought but I feel I’ve never used it enough to really get to know it on more than a superficial level. However I’ve also been wanting to get back into medium format a bit more as well. Being a dedicated unit it excels at one specific task – scanning 35mm film, but there's very little it can do beyond that one specific task. As I’ve written about in my rolling article on the scanner I have very few reservations about it and it’s paid for itself many times over since getting it. I’ve been happily using the Plustek 8200i to scan all my 35mm film for close to two years. But how big is the difference? And how do the scans stack up with what you get from a good lab? Are flatbeds totally hopeless for 35mm and only really usable for medium format and up? There’s not really a whole lot of objective and visual comparisons out there, something I figured I’d have a little stab at in today’s entry. That a dedicated scanner offers better scan quality than a flatbed is pretty common knowledge. Intro Medium format comparison 35mm comparison Want to try it for yourself? The great thing is that this collection is totally affordable and won’t break the bank. Okay I’ll stop rambling here, you can hear all about it below in this video created for Walmart with Olay! I’ve noticed that I use less concealer on that area now. After over two weeks of continuous use now, I can see the difference it’s made in moisturizing, plumping and smoothing my under eye area, but right off the bat, I loved the slight “cosmetic” brightening it gave to combat dark under eye circles with a subtle light-diffusing brightener. My favorite is definitely the Dark Circle Correcting HydraSwirl, which first caught my eye with the packaging. The Niacinamide and N-Acetyl Glucosamine have also been shown to help reduce hyper-pigmentation (dark spots) by reducing excess melanin production. Each product in the basic three part skin care regimen that I tried is formulated with either exfoliating micro-beads (found in the Brightening Cream Cleanser), silicones or light diffusing beads that give instant smoothing and “luminous” results, while the long-term benefits are realized with ingredients like Niacinamide to gently exfoliate the skin’s surface, OliveM, Green Tea and Vitamin E to help protect the skin from free radical damage and N-Acetyl Glucosamine to help even out skin tone. The Regenerist Luminous collection just launched at Walmart and as the name would imply, the overall goal of the line is to bring a new “luminosity” to skin, which is something every age range can get on board with. The Tone Perfecting Cream Moisturizer came at the perfect time, because in the cold and dry climate my skin was thirsty and I’d forgotten how much winter really dries out your skin! A plus was that it didn’t leave my skin feeling greasy at all, but rather the formulation is pretty light and airy and with the silicones that smooth the surface of the skin I’ve actually been able to omit a foundation primer in the morning (because it works much the same way and pulls double duty as a moisturizer and primer!). I’d been using a treatment cream as the third step in my skin care regimen and since living in the warm and humid state of Florida, I hadn’t felt like I needed much more moisture (which isn’t necessarily true, I just found I didn’t like to be too greasy). While I was in Philly a couple of weeks ago, I tried out the new line of Olay products, the Regenerist Luminous line… and there’s just nothing like diving into a brand new pot of face cream! To be honest, I hadn’t been using a facial cream moisturizer for awhile, GASP! I know. Read more about these links in my disclosure policy. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. While many localities were found before the 19th century, there were still some undiscovered gems in Brazil. They were disregarded for their low quality, but Manuel Xavier, a prospector from Bahia, decided to mine the area anyway a year later. In 1981, a locality was uncovered in Alto Bonito. It has only been used infrequently as a source of amethyst, however. German explorers, still busy in Brazil, found amethyst in Santa Maria and negotiated with local landowners to mine the area. In 1920, a locality in Iraí was found by revolutionaries as they were hiding along the banks of the Uruguay River. Throughout the 20th century, more localities were found. This had likely been going on for some time already, but more and more localities were discovered as the decades passed. Many settlers, explorers, and eager entrepreneurs from Idar-Oberstein (which had its own impressive amethyst veins) were beginning to set up shop in Brazil. They would then mine and ship amethyst back to Idar-Oberstein so lapidaries could cut them. In the beginning, it was apparent for how long and for what reasons Germany had been involved in Brazil. The 20th century saw some new developments for amethyst. Brazilian amethyst became the next big thing in the gemstone industry. Gradually throughout the 19th century, Brazil went from a known source of amethyst to being the source of fine amethyst. Later evaluations described in 1883 claimed that the amethyst of Brazil was “famous.” It was declared as an authentic piece of amethyst by professionals. Just eight years later, it was noted that much of the world’s amethyst supply was pouring out of Brazil. In 1870, it was reported that Brazil, along with some European countries, was one of the primary producers of amethyst. By the 1830s, it had become recognized that Brazil was becoming a leading producer of gemstones along with Siberia and Ceylon (modern-day Sri Lanka). The specimen in question was a “most singular curiosity,” weighing nearly a hundred pounds and about four feet in circumference but less than a foot tall. In 1820, a block of amethyst was described in the Asiatic Journal. Amethyst was described in 1813 by John Mawe. It saw frequent lapidary use throughout much of human history.
